On Saturday 27th October, the Bishop Auckland Town Team held their annual Monster Saturday event inside the Newgate Shopping Centre.
Shoppers and families in Bishop Auckland enjoyed a variety of Hallowe’en themed activities which included North East magician FLASH, as seen on TV’s Britain’s Got Talent, who did a Halloween themed magic show where some members of the audience won a special Halloween balloon model as a prize.
The Spectrum Roller Skating Club performed some spooky themed routines on their skates along with children from The Sandra Welsh School of Dance who performed ‘Fright Night’. Iain Jay then finished the afternoon with variety of spooky themed magic, illusion and circus performances including the bed of nails trick.
Tall Tales Mysteries were located inside Unit 5 (Old Shoe Zone shop) where families took part a variety of Hallowe’en based fun activities. A mini crime scene was created where children had to investigate by looking for fingerprints, clues, hair and fibres, with different suspects.
Many dressed up in scary costumes and took part in the Pumpkin parade and it was the Dave Wilson, manager of the Newgate Shopping Centre, who had the difficult task of picking the best dressed who won some gift cards.
Mr Wilson said: “Each year the costumes get more and more impressive and it’s always very difficult to pick a winner as everyone deserves to win. However the first prize of a £25 gift card went to 7 year old, Lily Nellis from Coundon.”
In December, the Bishop Auckland Town Team will be bringing Santa Claus to town along with the return of Advent Windows.
