Following on from the successful award of £19.9 million investment from the Future High Streets Fund, Durham County Council have submitted a bid of £46.8m to give Bishop Auckland an economic boost and establish the town as a world-class visitor destination, which will bring more jobs and economic prosperity.
The £46.8m Stronger Towns Funding bid is to deliver a Vision and programme over the next 10 years.
The 9 priority projects include Infrastructure capacity (£15.7m), Town Centre Diversification for Newgate Street & Market Place (£10.8m), Durham Dales Gateway Railway Station visitor hub (Weardale Railway) (Â5.9m) and a Heritage Transport Museum (£1.5m)
