BRAND NEW FOR 2018 – the Town Team are taking you back to the 1940s.
With live entertainment, performances and much more it’s guaranteed to be a fantastic feel good event!
Bishop Auckland will be transported back to an era of wartime rationing, tea dresses and swing dancing when it hosts its first 1940s weekend.
Highlights will include performances by close harmony singers the Fenner Sisters, historical reenactments and, hopefully, a display of military vehicles. The Town Team would be delighted to hear from other musicians and dancers interested in performing at the event, and are encouraging visitors to dress up in the military uniforms and styles of the day.
It is hoped town centre businesses will also get involved by dressing up their windows. A number of bars and cafes, meanwhile, have already expressed an interest in hosting 1940s music and dancing events on the night.
Sellers of vintage clothing and memorabilia are also encouraged to get in touch as stalls may be available.
Nigel Bryson, chairman of Bishop Auckland Town Team, said: “We know 1940s events are really popular in places like Barnard Castle and Pickering, and it would be fantastic to recreate that here in Bishop Auckland. We are always keen to increase footfall in the town.”
Anyone who would like to get involved can contact Nigel on 07789 907441 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
This event is sponsored by Bishop Auckland Town Council.
